[Tails got his lunch, sat at the table with two of his friends, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. Lately, for some odd reason, he had been finding himself looking over at her, and sometimes noticing that she's looking over at him. He smiled, she smiled, nothing seemed odd about it. But for some really peculiar reason, looking at her made his heart start beating faster, and sometimes his cheeks burned a little as well. He didn't really understand it, so he wrote it off as just being happy to be her friend. And maybe that's just how she felt back, right?

Well, it looked like a certain cupid in pink had a job to do that day, because this had been going on for quite some time now...]

[Quite a while, though Fluttershy wasn't sure why herself. Tails was a good friend, sure, but she didn't know why her heart would race sometimes when he was nearby, or why she felt embarrassed sometimes when he caught her glancing at him.

Or why she felt the need to look his way so often.

Maybe it's just that she wasn't so used to being such close friends with a guy. That was it, right?]

[Oh, please. Who the heck did those two think they were fooling? Pinkie, meanwhile, was looking at BOTH of them, a very Cheshire grin peaking past the grilled cheese sandwich she was munching on.]

[As far as Tails knew, he wasn't fooling anyone on anything. Comments may have been made, but they all sailed over his head.

He just enjoyed his lunch for the moment.]

So uh, how's classes going for you two lately?

[Fluttershy had to swallow her bite of salad before she managed to speak.]

Oh, they've been going all right...I'm a little worried about the report we have due English though...

Oh, I don't think it's gonna be TOO much trouble! Especially if we work together! After all, it IS a love story, right~?

[All the troll facing behind her sandwich.]

[He tilted his head a little before responding.] Yeah, it should be easier if we work together. [He prefers more action-y stories, himself... Why would a love story be easier?]

[Fluttershy blinked.] Um...I guess so...?

It's...not a love story, though...It's just a report about the book we were reading...

[Which actually was not a love story.]

[Pinkie blinks, then just giggles.]

OHHHH, YOU guys thought I was talking about the book! Ooh! Maybe we could talk about Scout's blossoming love for justice in a cruel Depression era society!

[That's about as close to romantic as To Kill a Mockingbird gets anyway.]

[Yeah, that book was anything but a love story. But Tails was more curious about something else she said.]

Wait, if you weren't talking about the book, what did you mean?

[Pinkie giggles.]

The one that our project's gonna be about, of course! But we'll get to that when we start working on it. Wouldn't wanna give out spoilers, after all~!

[Then again... Pinkie Pie HAS been eating a lot of grilled cheeses lately.]

U-Um...all right...

[By now she's learned that it's best not to ask Pinkie about what she means.]

So...should we plan some time to get together and do the project...?

[Best to let it go for the moment. Maybe she's just being silly.]

Sounds good to me. When would work best for both of you?

Oh, whatever works for you guys! After all, this IS a pretty important report!

[And she's not just talking about the hefty grade percentage... either?]

Mm...I have some time after school today...if that's not too soon for you guys...

Sweet! After school today it is! We could go to my place, OR we could study at the library!

[The latter might be a better option for, you know, getting work done.]

The library works...

[It would help with research too.]

[Tails nods in agreement.]

So we'll meet up after school, then, and head to the library.

[And on cue, there's the bell warning them to get to class.]

[Gathering her things, Fluttershy waved to them as they all headed to class.

The rest of the day went on as normal, and when the final bell rang, Fluttershy headed to her locker to get her things before heading to the library.]

[Tails happened to pass by Fluttershy, and decided to stop by to say something before they headed off.

Nevermind the fact that when he tried to actually say something to her, he paused for a second as his heart rate sped up a little. He doesn't get why still, but... he tries again to address her.]

H-Hey.

[strengthinkindness]

[Turning at the sudden voice, Fluttershy smiles shyly when she sees who it is.]

H...H-Hi...

[twotailedgenius]

S-So, um... y-you doing okay?

[Because that's the best he can do at the moment, apparently.]

[strengthinkindness]

[She nodded.] M-Mm...I'm doing all right. H-How about you?

[They're so good at this.]

[twotailedgenius]

Oh, I-I'm doing... g-great.

[A small awkward silence later...]

S-So um... you ready to go on to the l-library?
